The James Renwick Alliance for Craft (JRACraft) seeks a full-time Executive Director to lead a small team in fulfilling our mission to foster appreciation, education, and connoisseurship of American Craft. The Executive Director will act as an ambassador and representative at all times, while directing all operations and continued development of the organization. They will have a passion for craft, inclusivity, and be able to engage our members through new and exciting programming and other events. This role will oversee all departments and will report directly to the President of the board.
ABOUT THE JAMES RENWICK ALLIANCE FOR CRAFT (JRACRAFT)
JRACraft is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit arts organization, with a membership base made up of art enthusiasts, collectors, artists, educators, students, and art professionals who share a passion for contemporary American craft. Our mission is to celebrate and advance American Craft and craft artists by fostering education, connoisseurship, and public appreciation through programs, educational trips, publications, and recognition of excellence in the field. In addition, we provide support to craft artists and museums, including the Renwick Gallery of the Smithsonian American Art Museum, where we have provided more than $3.5 million for acquisitions, exhibitions, public programs, and publications.
BENEFITS
• 10 days (80 hours) of annual leave accrued at the rate of 3.33 hours per pay period. Any additional leave will require approval and be unpaid.
• Five days (40 hours) of sick leave accrued at the rate of 1.67 hours per pay period.
• All Federal holidays off
• Unused annual leave (not to exceed 40 hours) can be carried over into the next year.
• Sick leave may be accumulated to a maximum of 10 days (80 hours). Sick leave is defined as any absence from the office for illness, medical appointments, hospitalization, etc. and will be assessed during the pay period of the absence. Any additional leave will require approval and be unpaid.
• Holidays will be paid during the pay period for the holiday and may not be accumulated. You will need to obtain advanced permission before you use vacation days, and permission will not be unreasonably withheld. You will need to record the vacation and sick days and notify the payroll.
CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS
• Knowledge and experience in the Contemporary Craft field and not-for-profit organizations
• Related prior work experience (administration, marketing, development, and or fundraising)
• Self-motivation, reliable, and discipline to work independently and effectively
• Proficiency in basic programs (i.e. Microsoft Office suite and G-suite)
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Ability to learn technology efficiently and effectively
• Must be able to lift up to 25lbs for event set-up/take-down
• Knowledge of HubSpot and/or other membership/CRM a plus
• Knowledge of Quickbooks, graphic design a plus
• Ability to work in Washington, DC and attend in-person events and meetings (approximately once a month)
JOB DESCRIPTION/DUTIES
Administration
• Report to the President, Treasurer and Board, as specified.
• Assist with the execution and administration of programs.
• Be responsible for review, supervision and direction of staff.
• Ensure privacy, integrity and security of records, including secure back-ups of computer files, maintaining office files, financial, and automated systems and storage.
Governance
• Serve as a non-voting member of any committee if requested by the President or committee chair.
• Attend and assist in the planning and implementation of board meetings and committee development.
• Serve, in coordination with the President, as representative of the organization at JRACraft meetings and other craft-related events.
• Work in coordination with the Board to develop and implement a strategic plan.
Finances
• Ensure all bills are paid in a timely fashion as authorized by the President or Treasurer.
• Maintain bank accounts and budgets under the supervision of the Treasurer.
• Oversee, with the Operations Manager, monthly bookkeeping and annual financial audits.
• Maintain organized and accessible tax and business related files.
• Assist the President/Treasurer in preparation of the yearly budget.
Marketing
• Implement a marketing and publicity campaign consistent with JRACraft branding. Ensure the maintenance, updating, and performance of JRACraft website.
• Prepare and distribute eNewsletters and event-specific email marketing.
• Assist in distribution of social media.
• Ensure the design and layout of the Craft Quarterly; coordinate content and editing.
Programming
• Coordinate, with respective committees and program planners, the planning and execution of JRACraft-sponsored programs, trips and activities.
• Staff programs, trips and other activities as needed.
• Oversee trip planning and execution.
• Manage all trip registrations.
• Survey program participants and see to the overall satisfaction of JRACraft events.
Development
• Propose fundraising strategies for review and approval by the Board.
• Implement fundraising strategies developed and approved by the Board.
• Research, apply and execute a successful grant programs
• Participate in relationship building for individual donor cultivation.
Membership
• Build relationship with all JRACraft Members
• Work with the Membership Committee to develop and implement membership goals and develop programs.
• Manage member relations proactively.
• Respond to member communications in a timely manner.
• Track and record membership lists.
