OPEN CALL FOR CRAFT SHOWCASE AT THE KATZEN ARTS CENTER

5/5/2026

show your work in glass display cases
In 2018, the James Renwick Alliance donated two museum-quality display cases to The American University’s Katzen Art Center. For the first time in many years, we are again activating them with beautiful craft art.

Located in the Katzen entrance lobby, these cases offer JRACraft a wonderful opportunity to share the power of fine craft with museum visitors. We plan to rotate the works in tandem with the Katzen’s seasonal exhibition cycle, showcasing a range of media while highlighting JRACraft’s role as a leading nonprofit in the field and celebrating the work of our member artists.

We are seeking JRACraft member artists and collectors who are interested in lending up to three examples of their work for the locked cases for a period of 3-5 months. The selection will be curated by JRACraft’s American University Display Case Committee (pending approval by the University). Selected artists and collectors will need to sign a simple loan agreement with the University, and deliver the work to the museum themselves either in person or by shipping. University staff will install the works.

Our next showcase will be installed in early June. The exact date will be provided upon selection. We are looking for moderately sized pieces that display well on a glass shelf, of not more than 15 inches in depth and not more than 20 inches in height. The pieces should not be very heavy, and of a material that can safely be exposed to daylight coming through nearby windows. Artist name and contact information will be part of the display.

If you are interested in having examples of your work shown in the upcoming display showcase (June- August, 2026) or in subsequent showcase cycles,  please fill out the Google Docs application form.  For the June display, we must receive your images and information by no later than May 29. Selected artists for this cycle will be notified by June 1 for a mid-June installation. ONLY current JRA Craft members may apply, Artists can sign up to be a member here.
