NEW EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

6/24/2024

JRACraft Welcomes New Executive Director, Jennifer Scanlan
We are thrilled to announce that Jennifer Scanlan is joining the James Renwick Alliance for Craft as our new Executive Director, effective July 8th. Jennifer brings to the job over two decades of experience in the arts, with a particular emphasis on contemporary craft.

"As we begin this new chapter, Jennifer’s thoughtful leadership and passion will strengthen JRACraft’s dedication to contemporary American craft and enhance our programs and other initiatives," says JRACraft Board President, Rebecca Ravenal.

Prior to joining JRACraft, Jennifer served as the Deputy Director at Craft Alliance in St. Louis, MO, where she made substantial contributions to the organization's growth and outreach efforts. Her career includes pivotal positions such as Curatorial and Exhibitions Director at Oklahoma Contemporary, and Associate Curator at the Museum of Arts and Design.

Jennifer has also worked internationally as an independent curator and consultant on exhibitions, public art projects, and publications. She has taught courses in Contemporary Craft and Craft History at Courtauld Institute of Art Summer School in London, and at Parsons The New School for Design. Jennifer earned a BA in art history and Italian from Vassar College and an MA in the history of decorative arts, design, and culture from the Bard Graduate Center.

"I am delighted to begin my new role as Executive Director of the James Renwick Alliance for Craft. As the organization commences a new stage, I'm eager to build on their renowned history of programming and initiatives in the craft field.  And of course, I am looking forward to wonderful conversations with the JRACraft community. I hope to see many of you soon at an upcoming program or event!" - Jennifer Scanlan

Please join us in extending a warm welcome to Jennifer Scanlan as our new Executive Director!

If you wish to reach out to Jennifer and congratulate her on her new role you can email her at [email protected].

APPLY FOR THE 2024 CHRYSALIS AWARD

6/20/2024

DEADLINE TO APPLY: AUGUST 25, 2024
NOTIFICATION OF AWARD: SEPTEMBER 29, 2024

We are excited to announce that applications are now open for the 2024 Chrysalis Award in Glass! The Chrysalis Award was created by the James Renwick Alliance for Craft to promote and inspire US-based emerging craft artists. We define "emerging" as someone early in their professional artistic career, with no regard to age, who has completed a four-year academic program or equivalent training within the past five years and who has not been curated into an exhibition at a major institution such as the Renwick Gallery. The ideal candidate demonstrates excellence in their work and a commitment to developing in unique and dynamic ways.

The awardee will be selected by an independent panel
of jurors who are recognized experts in each year's field
of focus.

The awardee will receive a $5,000 unrestricted award, a one-year membership to JRACraft, and the opportunity to give a formal presentation about their work at a JRACraft event. The 2024 Chrysalis Award is generously made possible by JRACraft members Susan and Fred Sanders, and Ginat Mirowski and Stephen Wintermeyer.
