Craft Quarterly - CAll for CONTRIBUTIONS AND WRITER SUBMISSIONS
The James Renwick Alliance for Craft celebrates and advances American Craft and craft artists by fostering education, connoisseurship, and public appreciation through programs, educational trips, recognition of excellence in the field, and publications like our JRACraft Quarterly. If you have an idea for an upcoming issue, please submit an abstract or story idea below (100-150 words).
The thematic descriptions are not intended as limitations, and we welcome contributions on the theme that offer diverse perspectives and/or expand the framework articulated.
Writers selected for publication will receive a $150 stipend and a JRACraft membership for one year, along with 3 issues of the JRACraft Quarterly.

SUMMER 2024: FUTURES
Abstracts/Story ideas due: February 17, 2024
Articles due: May 12, 2024
This issue will investigate the possibilities of what could be. Articles might grapple with questions, including: What are the different kinds of futures and/or futurisms being speculated about in artistic practices and/or artworks? How do artists and objects provide avenues for thinking about the ways in which the future might appear? What do these artistic ventures suggest to us about the present? What is the future of craft in the United States? How might idealistic and informed hypotheses about this future diverge and/or connect?
WINTER 2025: JOY

This issue will look at the ways in which craft centers joy, a vivid emotion and experience of gladness. Articles might investigate questions such as: How do crafted objects convey joy? How might joyful works welcome new audiences to craft and/or introduce new narratives into craft histories. How does joyful craft contribute to the well being of artists and audiences? In what ways are artists attuned to the need for delight, pleasure, and satisfaction? What is the impact of this focus on enjoyment and exultation?
