CRAFT COLLECTING TALK

9/29/2021

DEMYSTIFYING AND DEMOCRATIZING CRAFT COLLECTING

TEXTILE TALK, SPONSORED BY THE SURFACE DESIGN ASSOCIATION
September 29, 2021, 2PM ET
Free & open to the public
Collecting is often considered a pastime of luxury but through this presentation by Jaimianne Jacobin, Director of the James Renwick Alliance for Craft, we look at how collecting can be an approachable part of the craft ecosystem and a bold decision to support artists and the craft movement. By presenting several interviews with textile collectors, she will unveil the unknown of collecting to make it more accessible and look at innovative approaches to collecting that can change the field. This talk is moderated by Caroline Kipp, curator, artist, and decorative arts historian, currently serving as the curator of Contemporary Art at the Textile Museum and George Washington University Museum. Textile Talk webinars are held Wednesdays at 2pm ET and are free and open to the public; registration is required.

Organizational participants include The International Quilt Museum, the Modern Quilt Guild, Quilt Alliance, San Jose Museum of Quilts & Textiles, Studio Art Quilt Associates, and Surface Design Association. The webinars are recorded and housed on the Textile Talk YouTube Playlist.

Sponsors include: MODA Fabrics & Supplies, Quilting Daily, Aurifil, eQuilter.com, Artistic Artifacts, Clover, Empty Spools Seminars, Mistyfuse/attached, Nine Patch Fabrics, Quilt Mania, Schiffer Publishing, Thai Silks, and TheQuiltShow.com.
