CRAFT SCHOOLS: HOW CRAFT EDUCATION SHAPED CURATING, COLLECTING, AND MAKING IN CONTEMPORARY CRAFT
4 WEEK ONLINE ZOOM CLASS
JULY 2 - JULY 23
TUESDAYS, 1pm - 2pm ET
$95 JRACRAFT MEMBERS | $135 NON-MEMBERS
Craft Schools is a project at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston that traces contemporary craft in the United States today. It springs from an epic three-year Amtrak journey across all 48 contiguous United States to visit places of contemporary craft teaching and learning. This class invites participants to come along on this journey to discover new places, people, and ways of making and knowing the world around us.

In addition to four live Zoom classes, you will receive extensive resources for further readings and watching. Can’t make a class? No worries, classes will be recorded and made available for all class registrants.

TOPICS INCLUDE
  • The importance of people and place in the study of craft education
  • Teaching and learning experiences of contemporary Native American craft artists and makers
  • How marginalized communities have formed their own spaces for knowledge transmission
  • The importance of craft education to the formation of the studio craft movement from 1945 onwards
  • The connections between the formation of craft schools and markets and museum collecting of contemporary craft
