FRIDAY TOP 5: CRAFT NEWS JUNE 12, 2020

6/12/2020

MAD About Jewelry goes virtual, museums collecting during these times, two more Craft Forum sessions, and more!
1. Curators from three Smithsonian museums are collecting signs from the ongoing protests against George Floyd’s killing by police, and they are not the only ones. You may remember with the Fuller Craft Museum collected "Pussyhats" in 2017 and now countless museums are collecting ephemera from the Coronavirus pandemic.

2. Cities around the United States (and abroad) are reconsidering statues that promote white-supremacy and continue contemporary colonialism. ArtNews has created a full list of statues that have been removed.

3. Craft in America has just two more Craft Forum sessions. Don't miss: American Craft Forum: Craft Thinking | Part 2: (Re)centering craft in our social lives | Friday, June 12, 3 – 4:15 p.m. ET and American Craft Forum: Craft Thinking | Part 3: Design solutions for an equitable and sustainable craft economy | Friday, June 26, 3 – 4:15 p.m. ET.  Visit https://go.craftcouncil.org/ForumSecondSeries to register for both.

4. Read the Art in America review of Lenore Tawney: Mirror of the Universe, a four-part exhibition at John Michael Kohler Arts Center in Sheboygan, WI. This was one of the amazing projects spoken about at Coffee & Craft Conversation with Mary Savig, the Lloyd Herman Curator of Craft at the Renwick Gallery, Smithsonian American Art Museum.

5. The Museum of Art and Design, MAD About Jewelry sale has moved online and MAD About Jewelry Alumni are featured in their new virtual trunk show series.
